Today’s victim, the Antec NSK4400, was kindly donated (temporarily) to me by a buddy of mine (Thanks Bertus).
The stock front panel really looks good, and an optical drive just ruins that.
I’m pairing the Antec up with a Samsung SATA DVD-RW for this mod:
What we want to do is make it look like the PC has no optical drive, by hiding it behind the 5.25” cover of the bay it’s occupying. So, let’s get started.
If you turn it over, you’ll see the little plastic clips that hold it in place:
These are in the way now, so they need to go. Use any means at your disposal to get rid of them. I cut these off with my Dremel:
Once you’ve cut these off, you might want to file down what’s left of the clips with some needle files:
Now you need your 2-way tape:
You need to stick some of it on the inside of the bay cover, EXACTLY where the tray of your writer will be. You might need to stick a few layers on top of each other to make sure that the tape reaches the drive. Once you’ve done that, stick a small block of tape exactly where the eject button will be (again, you might need a few layers of tape):
Now all you do is stick the cover onto your optical drive. Your end result will look like a stock case with no optical drive!
To eject your tray, just press the cover in the general area of the eject switch. That’s all there is too it. This guide will go particularly well with my Remote Eject Switch Mod. And that's it! Good luck and Happy Modding!
