Modding Guides > Plexi Bending > Full Guide

The first thing you'll need to do is prepare the plexi you want to bend. I strongly suggest you do any and all drilling, poishing, sanding, or any modding you plan on doing BEFORE you bend the plexi. Otherwise you'll be dealing with bends in the plexi that will almost certainly make your life difficult (as proven later in this guide). Here are a few strips I cut out for HDD mounts:

You'll also want to invest in a heatgun, or even a mini blow torch like this one will do:

Now here's the actual bending will take place:

Let me explain that image to you, since my MSPAINT skills leave a lot to be desired. You need to clamp your plexi between a flat surface and a piece of wood, metal, or anything that will hold your plexi in place:

Your plexi shouldn't be able to move at all. What you'll do now is point the flame of the blow torch against the part of the plexi you want to ben (this part should be at the edge of your flat surface). Don't hold the flame too close, as that will cause the plexi to start bubbling and melting, so just keep the flame a couple of centimeters away, just so that the very tip of the flame can barely touch the plexi. After a short while of this the plexi will be very soft, and at this point, you grab the closest flat thing you can find and bend the plexi in the direction you want it to go. Be careful though, that plexi is very hot!

All you need to do now is let the plexi cool off:

I didn't follow my own advice (when I said that you should do the sanding and polishing before), which is why i've suggested it in this guide, because while I was doing this, I ended up having to polish and sand these 4 pieces while they were bent, which was difficult. Nevertheless, here is a finished product for you, the HDD mounts:

Good luck and happy modding!

Ettienne
